Hotels in Shinagawa Area

Shinagawa is located in the south of Tokyo city center. It is the first stop of Tokaido Shinkansen to Kyoto and Osaka, and also the station you access from Haneda Airport easily by Keikyu line. On the hill in front of Shinagawa Station, many large chain hotels are lined up.

It’s not an area with many shops to hung out, and the town is mainly made by stations, hotels, and offices. It’s a great location if you arrive late from other city, or leaving by Shinkansen or air plane early next day.

Shinagawa Prince Hotel

Google Rate: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.0)

Shinagawa Prince Hotel is the biggest hotel in Japan with 3600 rooms. The hotel is located in front of Shinagawa Station, and it has a convenient access to the Shinkansen and Keikyu to Haneda Airport. The hotel has 4 towers and each of them has a different style of rooms. Even though the nightly rate can go lower than other surrounding hotels, make sure to avoid the room on “North Tower” as it is more like a small business hotel and different from what you expect from Prince Hotel. Also some rooms allows smoking in this hotel, so make sure your room has non-smoking sign upon booking.

Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa

Google Rate: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.2)

Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa is a Japanese hotel brand hotel called Prince Hotels. The Grand Prince Hotel is black walled iconic building on the hill near Shinagawa Station. The hotel is build old as you can see, but the inside is nicely renovated for the comfort. Depends on the room, you still see the old design especially in bathroom, and I found it a little bit dark and could be better. The black brick design of the hotel is something attractive.

The Prince Sakura Tower is part of Prince Hotels in Shinagawa area, but it is also a member of Marriott group, under the name of Autograph Collection. That means, this hotel is listed in Marriott Hotels, and you can use benefit of Marriott membership if you have. If you have Marriott Elite status and interested in getting points and using lounges, this can be a strong candidate in Tokyo. The hotel looks a little dated from outside and not good design, but it is well maintained and renovated inside. The hotel is also connected to other two Prince hotels in Takanawa through Japanese garden.

Budget Friendly Hotel

Among the many business hotels, Super Hotel is something I can recommend as long as travelers are aware of the size of the rooms. It’s reasonable, clean and efficient with functional room and facilities such as laundry in the hotel. Super Hotel has two location in Shinbanba and Aomori-Yokocho station, which is a few stops away from Shinagawa by Keikyu Line. Continental breakfast is included in the room rate, and both locations in Shinagawa has public bath with artificial hot-springs. You can enjoy the bath, but it’s not a real hot-springs and the size is small, so it’s not something you choose the hotel for that objective.

Tips upon choosing a hotels in Shinagawa

The most of the major hotels of Shinagawa is on the Takanawa Exit. This side of the station is hilly and you need to go up the hill to access to hotels on the mountain. If you are or with someone with less mobility, you might want to take taxi or choose Shinagawa Prince Hotel which is closer to the station.
